The Warner Eagles will enter the 2017 football season with a new head coach and a lot of youth. John Hart will take the reins as the skipper for the Eagles after serving as an assistant coach last year.
Hart is not new to taking over a program, as this is the second time in his career he has transitioned to the top spot. But, improving on last year’s 3-8 mark could prove challenging.
“Moving from last year to this year we have had a lot of turnover. As far as people coming back it is probably less than half,” said Hart.
The current Eagles players are already buying in to the hard work and expectations that Hart is selling, though.
“Coach Hart pushes us all the time. He keeps it positive and wants us to be the best players we can be,” said freshman Trace Elders.
Warner returns four starters on offense and five on the defensive side of the ball but the team will be young. Hart only has two seniors on the roster but is impressed with the overall numbers for the squad. “We will probably have more numbers than last year. It’s kind of a new start and we are looking forward to that fresh start,” said Hart. “It’s obvious we are young but what we are striving to do is get better every week.”
The Eagle offense will be directed by junior Wryan Daniels and will continue with the Georgia Tech style offense. The Tech offense is a triple option attack with heavy doses of triple option and midline options. Joining Daniels in the backfield will be six foot, 190 pound senior Jacob Hamm. Both Daniels and Hamm were all district selections a year ago. Also in the backfield will be sophomore Ryan Blanchet and freshman Haiden Peters.
