The Patriots are back under the Friday night lights this week, hosting the Sevier County Bears for the first time since 2014 when they handed Jefferson County a 63-10 drubbing.
A few things have changed since then, namely now second-year head coach Spencer Riley and a new-look Patriot offense that touts physicallity above all else.
Riley installed the new triple option look in the offseason and, much like a year ago, plans to run the ball until the opponent can stop it.
“They’ve got to play assignment football against us. It’s not a secret what we do. We’re going to do what we do and people are going to have to stop us,” he said. “We have answers built in for a bunch of different things people are going to throw at us. And we’re going to take our shots down the field. People better understand when we take shots its for a reason.”
On the other hand, Sevier County will look to throw the ball around and get its athletes in open space in their spread-option offense.
“They’ve got some speedy receivers. They do a good job of trying to distribute the ball to those guys,” Riley noted. “It’s definitely going to be a challenge for us in the secondary and making sure to keep those guys in front of us and not let them get behind us.”
