Can Georgia Southern Survive Without the Option?
I saw this article today. It speculates that Brent Pry (Vanderbilt) is a leading candidate at Georgia Southern. It brings up several interesting points. I think Ivin Jasper is the best candidate they can hire.
Georgia Southern’s coaching search will be winding down with the completion of college football.
And many of the school’s followers are saying Vanderbilt co-defensive coordinator Brent Pry is a leading candidate.
But what would Pry’s hiring mean for the Eagles’ signature triple-option offense? Pry doesn’t have much history with the triple option outside of his one-year stint at GSU under coach Jeff Monken in 2010.
As the head coach, Pry would hire his assistants. And Jim Pry, Brent’s father who is an offensive coordinator at Bethune-Cookman, could have a pretty good inside track at the job.
I’m not saying Brent would hire his father, but rather if he didn’t, Christmases at the Pry household would be a little awkward.
One thing is certain, Georgia Southern’s next coaching staff won’t have the guys who directed an option offense that ran for more than 400 yards in the Eagles’ 26-20 victory over Florida in the 2013 season finale.
Monken, who took the head coaching position at Army a week ago, has already enticed GSU’s offensive staff — coordinator Brent Davis, quarterbacks coach Mitch Ware, tight ends coach Sean Saturnio and running backs coach Lamont Seward — to join him at West Point.

I don’t think so…I’m hoping that it doesn’t end up like the sting with Chris Hatcher some years ago along with Todd Berry at West Point, and Bill Callahan at Lincoln. Some places are meant to be triple option staples, and Statesboro, Georgia is definitely one!!
Can Georgia Southern win without the option?
