It’s a bit late in the month to post this, but it didn’t cross my mind with the Christmas season upon us. Just like I asked last month, I am offering you a chance to ask whatever question you’d like as part of our mailbag segment. As an example, here are my responses to the November Mailbag.

I have ran a version of the flexbone for the best part of 20 years. It is a combination of Coach Johnson’s Georgia Southern, Coach DeBerry’s Air Force and even some Southern Utah. My Big three are Midline, Inside triple and Outside triple to the Tite End.
Have never ran Double Option, but I see the D-1 schools run it alot and it seems to answer many question the defense can present. Could you discuss rules and situations.
On which play in particular?
Against a 4-4 with two 2is two tight 5s and the inside LBs lined up in B gap and coming hard DEs would force the give. We had a hard time getting down to LBs with our tackles and only . We were at 4 &1/2 foot splits and other than shortening them up what else could we do to get triple more effective?
Patrick – What state are you from, so I can include this i my next article?
Utah
This may seem odd, but it seems like Navy did this vs a team this season that was playing with tight 5 techniques. Switch the assignments of the PS tackle and PSA. Insert the A through the B gap, like midline. The A looks to block the PS LB to the FS, outside release the Tackle. The tackle will check the PS LB running over the top, to the FS. The DE usually steps out to play Toss. I realize the Tackle on the FS is an athletic mismatch, but may times you expect the Tackle to block this same player on Toss.
