Since the summer! What other offensive scheme will cause your opponent to prepare for you months in advance?
“It’s Georgia Tech ever since the summer, even during two-a-days,” Shafer said in Monday’s Orange All-Access video posted on the school’s athletics website.
“We’d say, ‘OK, Georgia Tech, here we go.’ (Sunday) we put the defense in, the kids were like, ‘What do we call it?’ We’re like, ‘Georgia Tech.’ So they know it will be a challenge, but that’s why we coach and that’s why we play.”
“They’re going to force us as a defense to get eight, nine men up there to try to stop this great option football that they know how to run better than anyone I’ve seen on tape,” Shafer said.
“We need to do a great job of not only preparing for that but also doing a great job with our eyes in the secondary. There are some indicators that can give you a run-pass key, but it’ll be a difficult task for those kids on the back end.”
